That was episode “Reckoning” in season 5 and Clark did not fly, he super-leaped just like he did in “Hidden” when he died and Jor-El restored his powers. So SMALLVILLE is actually right.

He uses his other abilities all the time. Well.. not as him as an air cannon, but eh, who would at first? It seems like a uses power to a certain extent. But he uses it in a prior episode to distract as he steals. He also uses it to put out a fire when lana an lex are being held prisoner.
He can. It’s just the impact has to be significant. It of course depends on what version of superman you are speaking about, but it “works” like this. He’s like a solar battery. The type of light from the yellow sun fuels him. His body uses this energy to produce a powerful aura. However, if something impacts him with enough force to break through the aura, it can injure him. Or, if he utilizes his powers too much, the aura can drop and he basically becomes like everyone else.
It’s kinda one of the reasons why his home is his only poison. I believe some “perspectives” (as if this was reality) say that the radiation released by kryptonite interferes with his aura. Possibly making him sick or weakening him.
